The Nigeria Women Football League has confirmed the death of two players, Saturday Glory and Aniebet Ekong .
The duo, who played for the Police Machine, according to sources, were killed by a vehicle which hit them on Tuesday, October 1, 2019, while returning from training, along the new stadium road.
The assistant captain of Police Machine, Linda Nnaocha, said the players died on the spot before they could be taken to the hospital for necessary treatment.
This sad incident has dealt a huge blow to the Police Machine ladies, who are bidding to gain promotion to the Nigeria Women’s Premier League (NWPL) next season at the Women Pro-League promotion playoff billed to commence on Friday.
They were scheduled to battle with Pelican Stars, Moje Queens FC and Olori Babes for the two tickets at the Confluence Stadium before Tuesday’s devastating news.
