Wike’s State broadcast was a waste of time – APC

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has reacted to issues raised  in a statewide broadcast made by Governor Nyesom Wike,  saying its contents failed to pass the integrity test.
Describing the entire thing as a charade, the party said in a release made available to news men, “That statewide broadcast by the Governor of Rivers State, Barrister Nyesom Wike in our view failed to pass the integrity test. “It turned out to be an opportunity  to recycle baseless tales about the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi and the usual catalogue of accusations that many living in Rivers State know as grossly untrue.

“We could have been shocked if the Governor deviated from what has become the established norm. Somehow, he didn’t. It was all about Amaechi, Amaechi, and Amaechi from the beginning of the Tuesday broadcast to the end.” The APC noted there was growing evidence that the Wike administration was becoming increasingly frustrated.”For us, that broadcast showcased signs of growing frustration on the part of the Wike administration; a frustration that has taken hold, and provided an example of what animosity, deep-seated animosity expressed for no reason, can cause.

“Offering its assessment of the  address that was broadcast live, the APC observed, “We think that the Tuesday broadcast further dented the popularity of the Rivers State Government, particularly the image of the Governor who labored in vain, without substance, to shoot down the integrity of the Minister of Transportation.”It said the Rivers people do not require to be spoon fed with lies and malicious fabrications by a government that is known for outright deception and the promotion of bitterness and rancor.”Rivers people have the capacity to draw their own conclusions.

This is something that Governor Wike fails to take cognizance of. It may be why the Governor is unable to understand those defining factors that are responsible for the Minister’s public acceptability across the country. “We wish to note that since he ascended office in 2015, the Governor of Rivers State has persistently  launched series of blistering attacks on his predecessor. “Is it not time for the Governor to abandoned these fruitless attacks? Is it not time for him to face matters of State? These are some of  the questions that thousands of reasonable Rivers people are asking.”There is for instance, the issue of umployment to fight. We have one of the highest unemployment rates in the country.

“There is the question of the restoration of the state economy to contemplate, matters pertaining to investments to conceive, and the general welfare of the ordinary Rivers people to consider.”Saying Governor Wike was not elected either to fight political foes who do not share similar aspirations with him, or to engage in campaigns of calumny against citizens, the Spokesman  of the APC, Hon. Ogbonna Nwuke  said, “He was elected by Rivers people to find solutions to pressing Rivers problems; elected to offer quality leadership; and put in the saddle, to deliver a transparent, dedicated and accountable government.

“At this point, the APC has a strong feeling that there is a deliberate attempt to create a rift so that federal projects meant for Rivers State would be placed on hold. Such a plan will fail. “We wish to assure Rivers people that no one would be able to break the affinity with the central government that a generation of Rivers leaders, elders and chiefs, have cultivated. “The new deep seaport in Bonny,  the University of Transportation at Ubima, the Port Harcourt – Maiduguri rail line and the Railway Industrial Park, new mega projects worth billions of dollars will be delivered.”  “This is the APC’s commitment to Rivers people. No amount of blackmail, no amount of image  smearing, no amount of mind boggling sentiments expressed from the alter of hate can change the general perception of the people about Rotmi Amaechi, an illustrious son, patriot, nationalist and achiever”, the statement added.
