Wike’s Power Bloc Strikes: Emergency PDP BoT Summit Sparks Panic Over Leadership Purge

The battle for the soul of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated dramatically today as the powerful Board of Trustees (BoT) faction loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, convened an emergency meeting in Abuja, signaling an imminent, aggressive takeover of the party’s crumbling structure. The meeting, Africa Update learnt was focused on critical organisational issues aimed at repositioning the struggling party.

The factional leadership expressed a strong commitment to restoring internal confidence and stabilising the party structure nationwide, starting with long-overdue state congresses.

In his opening remarks, the BoT Chairman, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, affirmed the body’s dedication to internal discipline and transparency. He assured members that the national leadership was fully prepared to work collaboratively with all state chapters to install new leadership where needed and bring stability across the federation.

Senator Ohuabunwa outlined a clear roadmap designed to tackle the lingering organizational friction. The plan focuses on several key areas, including: Conducting overdue state congresses, Consolidating ongoing efforts across various chapters and Supporting the national leadership in repositioning the party for future challenges.

He emphasized that these steps are vital not only for strengthening unity and promoting transparency within the PDP but also for boosting grassroots participation, which has suffered in recent times.

“By holding timely congresses and reinforcing internal discipline, the PDP hopes to rebuild trust among its members and present a more organized and credible structure ahead of future elections,” Senator Ohuabunwa noted, underscoring the political imperative behind the structural reforms.

The gathering attracted key figures within the faction, including the factional BoT Chairman, Senator Ohuabunwa, the factional PDP Chairman, Abdul-Rahman Mohammed, National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu, Philip Tanimu Aduda, as well as several state chairmen and National Assembly members, lending significant weight to the resolutions being deliberated. The outcomes of the meeting are expected to chart a definite path for the faction’s influence over the party’s structure in the coming months.
