Wike orders VC of RSU to reject 500KVA generator, 500 computers donated by APC chieftain, INCRA condemns order

A political group, INCRA, has berated the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, for allegedly instructing the Vice Chancellor of the Rivers State University, Prof. Blessing Didia, to return gifts donated by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

A statement made available to Africa Update reads, ‘There is no end to the theatrics and vile politics exhibited by Governor Nyesom Wike in Rivers State. The Governor, driven by his usual pettiness, has ordered Prof. D.I. Hamilton, Dean of Faculty of Management, Rivers State University, through the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Blessing Chimezie Didia, to return a 500KVA generator donated to the Faculty of Management Sciences by a kind-hearted alumnus of the University, Hon. Timi Alaibe,on the grounds that the donor is a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, or risk sack.

‘The Governor further directed the University authority to reject 500 Computers set to be delivered to the University by the same donor.

‘It is appalling that while other State Governments are exploring the vast array of opportunities available in Private Public Partnership and encouraging private investors and partners to fast-track development in all sectors of governance, Governor Wike is busy discouraging individuals who are magnanimous enough to commit their hard-earned resources towards improving the conditions of our institutions and bettering society.

‘We have severally condemned the Governor’s posture and outlook on governance. Sadly, the Governor is unable to separate politics from governance and this has robbed the State of meaning gains in all sectors. This act by the Governor is not only puerile but retrogressive and we condemn it totality.

‘Our only consolation lies in the fact that Rivers people are set to oust the rudderless Wike-led Government come 2019’.
