The recent screening and clearance of Commissioner designates sent to the Rivers State House of Assembly is generating a lot of controversies.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former press Secretary of Emuoha Local Government Council, Nfata Nfata, has accused lawmakers of allegedly collecting N30 million from the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, as bribe to clear the Commissioner designate sent to the Assembly last week.
He purported that the said amount was given to the lawmakers under the guise of constituency projects and advised constituents o demand for constituency projects from their respective representatives.
His words, ‘ The Rivers State Assembly is the worst and most corrupt Assembly l have ever seen. The Speaker is corrupt, the Leader of the House is both corrupt and crafty,
‘ After our advise to the members of the State Assembly not to attend to Governor Wike’s usual screening and confirmation list, members of PDP in the House of Assembly betrayed us and went to Wike to collect the whooping sum of N30 million each just to screen the list of Commissioners and CTC Chairmen.
‘We call on constituents to go ahead and ask the Assembly members what they have brought home with the said N30 million.
He advised the Governor to extend developmental projects to other local government areas, than Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpor and threatened to lead a protest match with some youths of the state against members of the State Assembly for allegedly collecting money from Governor Wike, thereby refusing to draw his attention to the uneven distribution of developmental projects in the state.
‘Governor Wike, is busy giving Obio/Akpor Local Government Area, his own local government, a face-lift, Port Harcourt City Local Government that is well developed, a face-lift and our members in the House will compromise our own with N30 million? Ha! This is not democracy!! My brother, constituency projects is one thing that adds to constituents. Our dividends of democracy for just N30 million? This is a shame to democracy.
‘PDP members in the House of Assembly have betrayed our mandate. We condemn it with all sense of humility, democratic morality and Justification. Our Assembly members should hide their faces in shame. And let me state it very clearly, that all over the constituency, we will mobilise our people and very soon, we will visit the Assembly with a clear message’
Reacting to the allegations, the Chairman, House committee on Information and member representing Emuoha State Constituency, Sam Ogeh, stated that the allegations are untrue .
