The internal fractures within the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) have deepened significantly as the newly appointed Caretaker Committee in Bauchi State, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, issued a stern 14-day eviction notice to the faction aligned with Governor Bala Mohammed.
During a press conference held on Wednesday, the Committee’s State Chairman, the Honourable Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, directed all occupants currently holding the party’s secretariats across the state to vacate the premises immediately. The directive marks a bold escalation in the struggle for the soul of the party in the North-East.
Hon. Jungudo expressed profound gratitude to the National Working Committee (NWC), led by Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, for his committee’s appointment. He pledged to discharge his duties with “meticulous adherence” to the party’s constitution and the directives of the national leadership.
“The Committee is committed to the restoration of unity, discipline, and order,” Jungudo declared. He warned that any failure to comply with the two-week ultimatum to remove personal effects and vacate the secretariats would “attract lawful consequences.”
In a notable diplomatic gesture, the Committee offered an “unreserved apology” to the elder statesman and former Governor of Jigawa State, His Excellency Sule Lamido. The apology addressed the “embarrassment and inconvenience” allegedly orchestrated by Governor Bala Mohammed, whom Jungudo accused of deliberately blocking the sale of nomination forms to the founding member during a previous party convention.
The rhetoric turned sharper as Jungudo addressed the legitimacy of the rival faction. He dismissed the recent convention held in Ibadan as “illegitimate,” citing a lack of supervision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a blatant disregard for standing court judgements.
“Legitimacy is derived from strict compliance with party laws and the constitution, not by clandestine meetings with former governors,” he remarked, adding that the public must recognise the NEC’s decision during its 103rd meeting on 18 November 2025 to expel Governor Bala Mohammed and dissolve the state’s executive committees.
The Chairman placed the responsibility for the safety of party members squarely on the shoulders of the Governor, warning that the committee would hold the state’s chief executive accountable for any harm befalling party loyalists during this transition.
Despite the firm stance, the Caretaker Committee concluded with an appeal for reconciliation. Hon. Jungudo urged members who are currently contemplating defection to reconsider their positions, promising a new era of “fairness, inclusiveness, and unity” under the Wike-aligned leadership.
As the 14-day countdown begins, the political atmosphere in Bauchi remains taut, with observers closely watching whether the Governor’s camp will yield the party’s physical infrastructure or mount a legal and political counter-offensive.
