ABUJA – The African Action Congress (AAC), led by activist Omoyele Sowore, is making strategic moves to strengthen its presence at the grassroots level, announcing the dissolution of its executive committees in Rivers and Yobe states. The party has installed new interim leadership teams w ith a mandate to restructure and mobilize members ahead of upcoming state congresses.
A Call for Restructuring and Membership Drive
In a formal letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) dated August 14, 2025, Sowore, the party’s National Chairman, and National Secretary Ina Okopi Agu, outlined the changes. The document, titled “Notification of Probationary Appointment of Interim Excos for Rivers and Yobe States,” stated that the decision was a necessary step to “reposition the party for grassroots expansion and membership mobilisation.”
The new interim executives have been tasked with establishing temporary structures at the local government and ward levels to ensure a successful membership drive in preparation for the state congresses. This move signals the party’s intent to build a more robust and organized presence in the two states.
New Leadership Teams Take the Helm
The AAC has appointed Barrister Ms. Ivy West to lead the new interim executive in Rivers State, with Dr. Rosebrey Ohia serving as Secretary. Other key officers include Fyneface Nwabueze (Financial Secretary), Tammy Victor Williams (Publicity Secretary), and Justina Briggs (Woman Leader), among others.
In Yobe State, Abubakar Jawa Musa has been named Chairman, with Fatima Aji as Secretary and Khadija Mu’azu Nguru as Treasurer. Additional appointments include Mohammed Musa Ibrahim (Financial Secretary) and Mohammed M. Gujba (Publicity Secretary).
The party’s action to replace the former executives underscores its commitment to revitalizing its organizational structure and building a solid foundation for future political activities. The letter was also copied to various security agencies, including the police and State Security Service (SSS), ensuring that all relevant authorities are aware of the leadership changes.
