After weeks of intense horsetrading, Senator Godswill Akpabio as emerged as the new Senate President with Senator Barau from Kano state as Deputy Senate President.
He was declared the winner of the election into the Senate Presidency on Tuesday, beating his rival, former Governor Abdulaziz Yari to succeed Ahmad Lawan.,
Sorting of votes was still going on, when it was clear he had won majority of the votes of his colleagues.
Akpabio, who is a former Governor of Akwa Ibom was the nominee of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, to lead the 10th National Assembly.
