Scores of APC, NNPP members from Andoni join PDP

Some members of the All Progressives Congress, APC and New Nigeria’s People’s Patty, NNPP, from Andoni Local Government Area on Tuesday 20th June, 2023 defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The decampees led by a former member of the House of Assembly in the area, Hon Christian Mba were received at the PDP State Secretariat along Aba road , Port Harcourt by the State Chairman, Ambassador Desmond Akawor.

Speaking while receiving the decampees, Ambassador Akawor thanked them for taking such a wise decision.

“Some people will say why are they coming now when we have finished election. But they don’t know that after every election is the beginning of another election. The most important thing is the interest to join our party. Most of you were in the PDP before one thing or the other made you to leave the party. But we are happy that you are back”, Ambassador Akawor said.

He commended the decampees for the good things they said about former Governor Nyesom Wike and the Council Chairman, Barr Charles Awortu, noting that Nyesom Wike’s name has some aura around it.

“I know some states that if you talk about their leader, people will say abeg forget him, but today when you mention Nyesom Wike, even if you are not a member of PDP, once you say you are a Rivers man, people will say Wike people. That’s the aura he has created. There is a pride in it. Even me as party Chairman once they say see that man way stand there na state Chairman of PDP, people will just shift as if you are juju”.

He expressed delight that one of the greatest achievements recorded by the Chairman of Andoni is the peace and security the people are enjoy today stressing that time was when they could not go to their homes.

Ambassador Akawor who told them that in PDP there is no new or old member, warned the decampees not to create camps in the party in the area.

Earlier the leader of the decampees, Hon Christian Mba, and former House of Assembly member representing Andoni constituency during the administration of Dr Peter Odili said they decided to dump their former political parties and rejoin the PDP due to the impressive work former Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has done in the state and the peace and security brought to the area by the Council chairman .

“We decided to return to the PDP to be part of the consolidation team of the administration of Sir Siminialayi Fubara”, Mba stated.

Present during the event were the Chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Charles Awortu, PDP State Secretary, Dr Benibo George, the State Publicity Secretary, Hon Sydney Gbara, Chairman of PDP in Andoni Local Government Area, among others.
