Rivers State PDP Suspends Caretaker Chairman Over Alleged Alignment Wike

The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the immediate suspension of the Caretaker Committee (CTC) Chairman, Hon. Nname Ewor, following allegations of anti-party activities and an unsanctioned alignment with the recently expelled Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The decision, which includes Mr Ewor’s suspension as both Chairman and a registered member of the party, was reached during an emergency meeting of the Caretaker Committee on Saturday, 3 January 2026. The committee cited actions deemed “capable of undermining” the party’s stability and integrity within the state.

Following the ratification of the suspension, the committee unanimously appointed the CTC Secretary, Ogbam Ojimah, to the position of Acting Chairman. Dr Baribefu Fidunko has been designated to serve as the Acting Secretary.

Addressing the media following the emergency session, Mr Ojimah asserted that Mr Ewor’s conduct amounted to a de facto resignation. He maintained that the Chairman’s public support for Mr Wike directly contravened the established stance of the party’s national and state leadership.

Mr Ojimah emphasised that Mr Wike, having been formally expelled from the PDP, possesses no standing or authority to influence the party’s internal deliberations.

“It is important to remind the public that Hon. Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike has been expelled from the party and has no right to interfere in PDP affairs,” Mr Ojimah stated. “Through his actions and statements, Dr Ewor has voluntarily resigned as Caretaker Chairman. Consequently, the committee has formally suspended him… No dealings should be made with him in this capacity.”

The Acting Chairman reaffirmed the committee’s unwavering loyalty to the national leadership under Dr Kabiru Turaki. He noted that the primary focus of the Rivers State chapter remains the fortification of the party structure in preparation for forthcoming competitive elections and the delivery of effective service to the populace.

The suspension marks a further deepening of the internal crisis within the Rivers State PDP, as the party continues to navigate the fallout from the expulsion of high-profile members and the realignment of state political structures.
