The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo, has disowned a radio jingle sponsored by Young Jack, drumming support for him ahead of the Governorship election in 2023. According to a public announcement signed on June 1, by the Press Officer, Juliana Masi and sighted by Africa Update, the SSG admonished media houses to exhibit high ethical standards while handling media matters regarding public figures and top government functionaries.
Excerpts of the public announcement: Our attention has been drawn to a jingle on Rhythm 93.7 FM, by some miscreants sponsored by political opponents and detractors using the pseudonym – ” Young Jack” purporting to call for support for Dr Tammy Danagogo. It beats our imagination how a supposedly responsible media organisation will take adverts about a prominent citizen like the SSG from faceless characters without cross checking from us.
We disassociate Dr. Tammy Danagogo from the said jingle and emphatically state that it is targeted at distracting him from performing his official duties. Media houses and members of the general public are warned to be wary of unscrupulous elements who are bent on creating unnecessary distractions in the polity.
