The Independent Newspapers Publishers Association of Rivers State (RIVPA) has called for sincere reconciliation among all parties involved in the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, citing the urgent need for peace, stability, and regional development.
In a press statement issued in Port Harcourt on Thursday, 22nd January 2026; jointly signed by Mr Ifeanyi Evans Osi, Caretaker Chairman, and Mr Augustine Tanee, Caretaker Secretary, RIVPA urged political actors, stakeholders, and concerned groups across the State to maintain neutrality. The Association encouraged all parties to embrace dialogue, mutual respect, and a peaceful resolution of their differences.
The Association emphasized that Rivers State cannot afford prolonged political tension, noting that such instability stifles governance, hinders economic growth, and compromises the well-being of the citizenry. RIVPA, therefore, appeals to leaders and their supporters to prioritize the collective interest of the State over personal or partisan ambitions.
RIVPA further commended traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organizations, and well-meaning individuals who have intervened to promote reconciliation. Such efforts, the Association noted, are vital to restoring public confidence.
Furthermore, the Association urged the people of Rivers State, particularly the supporters of the political figures involved to exercise restraint and maturity. It cautioned against the use of social media to inflame tensions or spread misinformation.
Addressing fellow professionals, RIVPA advised media practitioners to remain steadfast in their ethical duties. Journalists are urged to uphold the principles of accuracy, fairness, and responsibility, avoiding the sensationalism that could exacerbate the current situation.
To the business community and prospective investors, RIVPA offered reassurances that Rivers State remains safe and open for commerce. The Association encouraged them to continue their lawful activities without fear, as the situation is being responsibly managed by the relevant authorities.
RIVPA reaffirms its commitment to responsible journalism and peace advocacy, pledging to continue using its platforms to promote unity, constructive engagement, and democratic values within Rivers State.
