NCWS, others make case for women at FIDA’s Town Hall meeting (Pictures)

As the clamour for the enthronement of good governance takes center stage, the need for citizens’ participation has become the crux of every political advocacy. On July 27th, members of the National Council for Women Societies, NCWS, were at a town hall meeting organised by the International Federation of Women Lawyers, FIDA, Nigeria, Rivers State Branch, under the leadership of Bar. Adata Bio Briggs.

Speaking at the main auditorium of the NBA House, venue of the town hall meeting tagged engage Rivers Women, the Vice President, Rivers West Senatorial District, NCWS Rivers State Branch, Gloria Boma Harry, reiterated the need for Rivers women to take advantage of the ongoing PVC registration, which according to her, is the only tool, that would guarantee a better future for citizens, especially women.

Harry, stressed the need for women to have adequate knowledge of Laws that protect the political and social rights of Rivers women, to enable them become better informed and placed in the scheme of events, a position earlier noted by the Chairman of the event, Hon. Inime Aguma.

Harry, further noted that only those Candidates who are willing to support the political and economic aspirations of women in furtherance of the current gender friendly policies of the Nyesom Wike led administration, should be voted into power.

In their goodwill messages, representatives of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria, National Association of Women Journalists, Girls Guide, Teachers, Women in Survey, Muslim Women Association, Christian Association of Nigeria women wing, Rivers State University Women, Female Architects, Entrepreneur Platform Initiative, EPI, People Living with disability, female student lawyers, and others, made submissions on what they expect from the Governorship Candidates who are aspiring to occupy the brick house in 2023.

Some Governorship Candidates who were present at the town hall meeting include: Senator Magnus Abe, Siminalayi Fubara, who was represented by the deputy Governorship candidate of the PDP, Dr. Ngozi Odu, amongst others
