Rivers Alliance Queries Assembly’s Intentions, Restates Firm Support for Governor SIM

The Rivers Alliance, a respected civic focused organisation in Rivers State, has again restated its firm and unshaken support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, declaring readiness to stand behind him should he decide to seek a second term in office.

This position was made known in a statement issued by Evans Osi, who explained that Governor SIM’s achievements in improving security, enhancing public welfare, and fostering sustainable development are evident across the state. Osi expressed concern that only a few days after the Rivers State House of Assembly controversially endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term, the same lawmakers have refrained from extending similar support to their own governor.

According to him, such a development raises questions about whose interest the lawmakers are truly representing. He further observed that while a section of the Assembly seems to be acting under external influence, “the remaining six lawmakers appear to be patiently waiting for direction from their true leader.”

Osi described the unfolding situation as a reflection of a deeper challenge in the political culture of Rivers State. “We need to speak plainly. The style of politics we play in Rivers State is not healthy for our growth and development. If you look at Akwa Ibom, particularly Uyo, you will notice how political unity and alignment have aided peace, stability, and progress. Rivers State deserves the same,” he stated.

Despite internal political disagreements, Osi emphasized that the people of Rivers State are fully aware of the governor’s visible contributions and steady leadership. He added that the Rivers Alliance remains committed to helping citizens stay well informed about political developments shaping the state’s future.

“How can a State Assembly endorse a serving President for a second term, yet refuse to extend the same courtesy to their own serving governor?” he asked. “Such an action clearly suggests influence from powers outside the Assembly.”

He stressed that the Rivers Alliance acknowledges Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s dedication, maturity in leadership, and commitment to the wellbeing of Rivers people. “As members of the Rivers Alliance, we recognise his efforts in stabilising the state, advancing development, and promoting inclusive governance,” Osi said.

The group concluded by assuring that it will continue to monitor political developments in the state, engage citizens constructively, and support initiatives that strengthen peace, good governance, and collective progress.
