ABUJA, NIGERIA – Former Minister of Transportation and two-time Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has made a series of bold declarations, vowing to contest for the presidency in 2027 and eradicate corruption within his first month in office. Speaking during a conversation on X Spaces, the former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain also vehemently denied ever participating in election rigging, challenging anyone with evidence to come forward.
Denial of Rigging Allegations
During the online session, Amaechi addressed the issue of election malpractice, stating that he has never been involved in rigging. “I challenge any politician, living or dead, to come forward and say I was part of rigging,” he said. He further explained that the rigging process typically involves governors and the diversion of state funds through government agencies.
Amaechi doubled down on his position, asserting, “I will never participate in any rigging whatsoever, and I will not do it. What I promise to do now, going forward, is to stop rigging.” He added that he would apologize if any Nigerian could produce evidence of his involvement in any form of election rigging.
Ambitious 2027 Presidential Vows
While discussing his political future, the former minister announced his plan to contest for the office of the president in the 2027 general election. He outlined an ambitious anti-corruption agenda, declaring that he would amend the constitution to “end corruption in Nigeria within one month” of being sworn in.
In a remarkable promise, Amaechi stated, “If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation.” He also alleged that some influential Nigerians regularly visit the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to embezzle funds. In addition to his anti-corruption stance, Amaechi reportedly stated that if he becomes president, he will change the constitution from “indigeneship to citizenship.”
The declarations have sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many questioning the feasibility of his ambitious promises and his ability to address the nation’s deeply entrenched issues. The statements serve as a clear indicator of the political landscape shaping up ahead of the next general elections.
