The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, Dr Arthur Jarvis Archibong, has pledged to serve only one term if elected governor in the 2027 general election.
Archibong made the commitment in a Democracy Day message in which he criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration, accusing it of failing to fulfil its electoral promises and uphold public accountability.
The PDP standard-bearer lamented what he described as the underutilisation of the state’s vast resources and opportunities, arguing that the current administration had not delivered meaningful development to the people.
“For too long, Cross Riverians have watched from the sidelines while our God-given resources, our beauty, and our potentials are wasted. Our roads are failing, our hospitals are empty, our people neglected and our communities abandoned. That is not democracy. That is drift,” he stated.
Archibong said his vision for Cross River State would be anchored on a five-point agenda focused on service and accountability, wealth creation, job generation and economic revival, infrastructure development, and inclusive leadership.
According to him, the proposed agenda is designed to restore effective governance, stimulate economic growth, and ensure that all communities benefit from the dividends of democracy.
The PDP candidate further framed the 2027 governorship election as a defining moment for the state, describing it as a choice between “stagnation and progress, between intimidation and service, between yesterday and tomorrow”.
Seeking to distinguish his leadership style from that of previous administrations, Archibong pledged to place the interests of the people at the centre of governance.
“I am not coming to rule over you. I am coming to work for you,” he declared.
He also expressed confidence that a change in leadership would restore the state’s fortunes and renew public trust in government.
“Together, we will restore the pride, dignity, and prosperity that Cross River State is known for,” he added.
As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, Archibong’s remarks are expected to shape discussions around governance, accountability and development in Cross River State.
