“There can never be a political or social gathering of this nature in ogoniland, where three former Senators, a serving Senator, former Federal Legislatures, a serving Member of the House of Representatives, former members of the State House of Assembly, 5 serving members of the State House of Assembly, former Commissioners, 3 serving Commissioners, former and serving Council Chairmen of Khana, Gokana, Tai and Eleme Local Government Areas, Traditional Rulers, and Captains of Industry, will be in attendance to honour a Governor. It has never happened.”
These are paraphrased words spoken by the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Senator Barry Mpigi, during the grand reception held in honour of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, by Ogoni nationality at Bori community, in Khana Local Government Area on Saturday, May 15.
Mpigi, stated that the commitment of the Governor in fulfilling all promises made to ogoni nationality during his campaign, has led to the transformation of the landscape of communities in local government areas that comprise the ethnic group. Mpigi noted that the strong bond of friendship that exist between Governor Wike and his acquaintances from the LGAs have remained in tact despite perceived political differences in time past.
He assured the Governor of unbroken loyalty of politicians from the region and urged a few politicians from the area, who are still undecided about joining forces with Governor Wike, in his bid to better the fortunes of Rivers people, to do so, which according to Senator Mpigi, will foster economic growth.
Highpoint of the reception organised by Kagote, in honour of the governor for the unprecedented infrastructural development witnessed in the State since he assumed office, was the conferment of the title: Mene Kwalenu 1st of Ogoni, (a benevolent king) on Governor Wike, by the President of Supreme Council of Ogoni Traditional Rulers, His Royal Majesty, King G.N.K Giniwa,
