Unconfirmed reports have alleged that the Senator representing Rivers South East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe, is responsible for the mayhem that erupted at the State Secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday, May 4, 2018.
The mayhem which resulted in the destruction of properties and assault of party officials by thugs purportedly loyal to Abe, ravaged facilities at the State Secretariat.
Our source further said, the attack could have been a ploy to provoke APC members sympathetic to the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, following unwarranted attacks on him.
Meanwhile, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has also been linked to the incident, though our source couldn’t state his purported involvement, but however, stated that he (Wike) does not want the opposition party in the state to hold Congresses which would herald the exit of his party from the helms of power come 2019.
This allegation the source hinged on the inability of police officers attached to the police station opposite APC’s secretariat to promptly respond to the distress call at the time of the attack.
These allegations though unconfirmed, make party faithfuls wonder why Abe would embark on such tactics when the leadership of the party has stated in clear terms, the provision of equal and fair opportunities for aspirants who are interested in becoming party officials .
Recall that Abe had commissioned his campaign office few days ago, in readiness for his governorship ambition, making him the first APC Governorship aspirant, a move that has cleared insinuations that Amaechi, has anointed a governorship aspirant, ahead of the party primaries.
