The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to factional National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, has elected Richard Enyinha-Victor as its gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections in Rivers State. Mr Richard Enyinha-Victor is set to contest the seat against other prominent contenders, including Okey Chinda, Dumo Lulu-Briggs, and Gabriel Pidomson.
Declaring him the winner of the primary election, which was held in the Degema Local Government Area, the Chairman of the Rivers State PDP Gubernatorial Primary Electoral Committee, Dr Edward Adie, stated that Mr Richard Enyinha-Victor had satisfied all the constitutional requirements of the party. He noted that the candidate emerged through a consensus arrangement adopted by key stakeholders.
Addressing journalists shortly after the exercise, Richard Enyinha-Victor disclosed that his decision to enter the gubernatorial race followed extensive consultations and sustained persuasion by political stakeholders across the state.
Should he be granted the mandate by the electorate in 2027, the candidate pledged to give priority attention to tackling insecurity. He further assured party faithful of an inclusive leadership style aimed at fostering development and unity, promising to restore Rivers State to its glory years through robust infrastructural development.
The gubernatorial primary was conducted alongside primary elections for the National Assembly and the Rivers State House of Assembly positions.
The exercise was, however, marred by early disruptions. The Ogbunabali Civic Centre, which was the original venue designated for the primaries, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums allegedly loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike. The assailants reportedly flogged delegates and passers-by, confiscated mobile phones, and intimidated attendees. The outbreak of violence forced organizers to relocate the entire electoral exercise to a safer venue in the Degema Local Government Area.
