Port Harcourt, Rivers State – The political and administrative machinery of Rivers State has undergone a significant transition, following the appointment of Hon Benibo Anabraba as the new Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG). His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, the Governor of Rivers State, approved the key appointment, which was officially sealed during a swearing-in ceremony held on Monday, 13 October 2025.
The ceremony, a pivotal event in the state’s political calendar, took place at 4:00 PM in the State Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Port Harcourt. Guests and dignitaries were requested to be seated by 3:30 PM to witness the formal assumption of office.
The Significance of the SSG Role
The position of Secretary to the State Government is arguably the most crucial administrative office within the Executive Arm of Government. The SSG functions as the Chief Administrative Officer and principal adviser to the Governor, coordinating the activities of all ministries, departments, and agencies.
Mr Anabraba’s appointment and subsequent swearing-in is viewed by political analysts as a strategic consolidation move by the Fubara administration. It positions a trusted and capable figure at the very heart of the state bureaucracy, aiming to streamline governance and enhance the efficiency of policy execution across the state.
The announcement was formally communicated via a special statement signed by Dr. Honour Kuru Sirawoo, mni, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The new SSG now faces the immediate challenge of aligning the state’s complex administrative structure with the Governor’s agenda, particularly as the administration seeks to cement its development legacy and steer the state through future political cycles. The focus will now shift to how Hon Anabraba intends to manage the strategic communication and coordination required to deliver on the government’s mandate.
