Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has intercepted trucks loaded with cows and 14 persons at Rumuigbo community in Obio/Akpo local government area, of the state, during routine patrol to monitor compliance by citizens to the lockdown imposed in Port Harcourt and Obio/Akpo local government areas.
One of those apprehended with the cows, last night, told the governor that they were contracted to bring the cows from Adamawa State.
Disturbed by the confession of the man, Wike, reiterated that his administration is determined to ensure that the state is protected from such intrusion, considering the high rates of coronavirus infections in the Northern part of Nigeria.
He said those arrested will be prosecuted for flouting the Executive order, while the trucks and cows would be auctioned to members of the public.
He frowned at the actions of security operatives, who have compromised the borders for monetary benefits.
