Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has formally declared his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Rainbow Coalition, the political movement spearheaded by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor also endorsed the coalition’s governorship candidate, urging his supporters to rally behind all candidates presented by the political platform as part of efforts to consolidate peace and political unity in Rivers State.
Fubara made the declaration on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony for the reconstruction and equipping of the Riven Medical Facility, a public-private pharmaceutical manufacturing project in Rivers State.
Announcing what he described as the end of the state’s prolonged political crisis, the governor called on his supporters to embrace reconciliation and work collectively towards the state’s development.
“I am supporting our Rainbow Coalition. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is our President, and he is the one we are supporting. The governorship candidate is the candidate I am supporting, and anybody who believes in me will support every candidate under the Rainbow Coalition,” Fubara said.
He dismissed calls for him to delay joining the coalition, maintaining that he had already reunited with his political family.
“I am already in the family. I have returned to our family. Give your total support to the coalition. The time of war is over; it is now time for peace, and that peace will take us to another level,” he added.
The governor further pledged not to participate in any activity capable of reigniting political tensions in the state.
“I am not party to anything that will bring any form of disunity in this state. We have done what we need to do, and now we are moving forward,” he stated.
Fubara’s declaration follows his earlier withdrawal from the 2027 Rivers State governorship race, a move that was widely linked to the political reconciliation process between him and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
The peace accord, according to Wike, included the withdrawal of impeachment threats against the governor in exchange for his decision not to seek a second term in office. The FCT Minister had also criticised Fubara’s earlier decision to obtain governorship nomination forms, describing it as inconsistent with the reconciliation agreement before the governor eventually withdrew from the race.
Beyond politics, Governor Fubara reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the Riven Medical Facility project after receiving assurances regarding its technical feasibility and implementation timeline.
He disclosed that the first phase of the pharmaceutical manufacturing facility is expected to be completed within three months, describing the investment as a major step towards industrialisation and economic diversification in Rivers State.
According to the governor, the project will create employment opportunities, stimulate economic activities, position the state as a leading hub for the production of medical consumables, and attract both local and international investors. He added that the development would encourage the emergence of complementary industries within the project corridor.
Fubara assured the investors of his administration’s full cooperation and appealed to members of the host community to provide a peaceful environment conducive to the successful execution of the project.
The governor also revealed that the Rivers State Government is currently engaged in litigation involving claims exceeding ₦200 billion against several companies. He stressed that his administration is committed to preventing contractual disputes capable of undermining investor confidence and slowing the state’s economic growth.
He reiterated that sustaining peace, protecting investments, and promoting industrial development remain central to his administration’s agenda for the continued socio-economic transformation of Rivers State.
