A Magistrate court sitting in Port Harcourt has remanded the member representing Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency Ephraim Nwuzi in Prison custody for 10days for remand warrant.
Nwuzi who is also the Candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, for Etche Omuma Federal constituency was arrested by state CID for alleged video sent to them for inciting violence, promoting communal crisis, treasonable felony and conspiracy.
Our Correspondent reports that no preferred charge was brought before the court
When the case was mentioned, the police requested that Nwuzi be remanded in Police custody until the investigation is completed, but the prosecutor opposed that Nwuzi be remanded in Prison custody, noting that his statement in the video can cause violence during and after election.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate Amadi Nna after listening to the counsel remanded Nwuzi to correctional center for ten days and adjourned to 3rd of March 2023 for hearing.
Meanwhile, Counsel to the lawmaker, Chief Emenike Ebete, said “We have submitted to the court that the offences disclosed in the particulars and affidavit attached were not sufficient enough for him to be remanded.
“The court in its wisdom held that the offences are precious and that he should be remanded in prison custody until the 3rd of March 2023 pending when a charge will be preferred against him by the state.”
The member of the House of Representatives was on Wednesday morning apprehended by policemen who broke into his Chokocho, Etche residence.
