The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr Nyesom Wike, has issued an impassioned appeal to the residents of the nation’s capital to maintain their steadfast support for President Bola Tinubu, asserting that the administration’s rigorous focus on infrastructure is fundamentally enhancing livelihoods, particularly within the satellite towns.

The Minister delivered the charge on Wednesday during an extensive inspection of ongoing road construction projects along the Bwari–Kubwa axis. He reassured the citizenry that the Tinubu administration is resolute in its determination to deliver developmental projects that materially improve living conditions across all communities within the territory.

According to the Minister, President Tinubu’s commitment to inclusive growth has inspired a significant resurgence of confidence among the populace. “It is exceedingly difficult for any individual to win an election in the FCT against Mr President, because the people are genuinely amazed by the transformation they have witnessed,” Mr Wike remarked.

He further elucidated that the numerous projects currently taking shape across the FCT reflect a deliberate strategic shift from concentrating development solely within the city centre to extending essential infrastructure to historically underserved areas. “We were advised that the city centre was over-concentrated with infrastructure. That is precisely why we are penetrating the satellite towns; these communities are an integral part of Abuja, and their standard of living must likewise be elevated,” he added.

The Minister cited the notable progress recorded on arterial routes, including Karu, Apo–Karshi, and the Bwari–Kubwa corridor, as definitive evidence of the administration’s resolve to enhance mobility.

“Residents can now commute from areas such as Kuje and reach their places of work within the city in approximately 25 minutes. That is the tangible impact of our efforts,” he noted, observing that many of these communities are witnessing such high-calibre development for the first time in their history. Mr Wike also disclosed that several of these road projects are slated for completion and formal commissioning as part of the activities marking President Tinubu’s anniversary in office.

Addressing the subject of real estate regulation, the Minister dismissed proposals for the creation of a new agency to oversee developers, maintaining that existing regulatory bodies are sufficient if properly empowered.

“The challenge currently facing Nigeria is the unnecessary proliferation of agencies. Establishing further bodies will not resolve the underlying issues,” he stated. He emphasised that the prioritisation of the Department of Development Control is the appropriate course of action to ensure strict compliance with the Abuja Master Plan.

He further assured residents that all formal complaints regarding developer malpractice would be addressed with dispatch, vowing that the FCT Administration would ensure errant developers are held strictly accountable to the law.

Mr Wike concluded by urging residents to remain unified and contribute meaningfully to national development, stressing that progress in critical sectors such as security and infrastructure necessitates a collective national effort.

“This is a season for all stakeholders to work in concert to support the government’s efforts to rebuild Nigeria,” the Minister stated, while also extending warm Ramadan greetings to the Muslim community.
