DELGA IPAC endorses Dr. Agba Harry as Sole Chairmanship Candidate

•••Urges Sportsmanship From Party’s Candidates

The Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, in Degema Local Government Area, has endorsed the Chairmanship Candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Dr. Agiriye Agba Harry as the consensus candidate of the LGA, ahead of the forthcoming October 5th Local Government elections in Rivers State.

The group made this known, Tuesday, during a press conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, with chairmen of eighteen political parties in attendance.

Chairman of DELGA IPAC and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the LGA, Hon. Dickson Youngman, who read the communique on behalf of the group, disclosed that the reason for the endorsement of the APP candidate, was based on IPAC’s desire to entrench good governance in the LGA, which Dr. Agba Harry represents.

The party chiefs noted that the APP candidate has the wherewithal, based on his vast wealth of experience, to change the fortunes of DELGA, calling on candidates vying on their various platforms to stand down their ambitions for the interest of the LGA.

They commended the Rivers State governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, for his visionary, peaceful and focused leadership, providing democratic dividends to the people of the State, despite the stiff opposition to his administration, lauding the State Government for its determination to conduct the local government elections on Saturday, October 5, 2024.

While commending the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, for their commitment in conducting a free, fair and credible election, the group urged the security agencies to maintain neutrality and uphold professionalism during the polls.

Good morning respected party leaders, stakeholders, ladies and gentlemen.
Gentlemen of the Press.

We, the leadership and members of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Degema Local Government Area chapter, comprising the following political parties in the LGA;

After due deliberation and consultation with critical stakeholders of our parties, having considered the current political developments in Rivers State, do resolve as follows:

1. That we commend the Rivers State Government, under the peace-loving and visionary leadership of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, for putting the interest of Rivers people and paying little or no interest in politics.
2. That we equally commend the Rivers State Government for going ahead to conduct the local government elections, while we condemn the desperation and shenanigans of some undemocratic elements, who have sadly turned the courts to a supermarket, where they obtain frivolous injunctions to stop the same elections they clamored for.
3. That we commend the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), under the able leadership of Hon. Justice Enebeli (Rtd), for his commitment in conducting a free, fair and credible election, that would reflect the true desire of Rivers people.
4. That the IPAC in Degema, after considering the credentials and manifestos of all the Chairmanship Candidates, unanimously endorses the Chairmanship Candidate of the Action Peoples Party (APP), Dr. Agiriye Agba Harry, as our sole candidate in the October 5th LG elections.
5. After considering the rich profile of Dr Agba Harry, a seasoned technocrat, accomplished medical doctor and decorated civil servant, who served Rivers State in several ministries as Permanent Secretary and left an unblemished record of excellence, his candidacy is best for Degema LGA, as he would bring his wealth of experience to transform the LGA.
6. To this end, we withdraw our support to candidates vying under our aforementioned parties for the interest of the LGA, and hereby beckon on those candidates to stand down their ambitions in the spirit of sportsmanship for a better candidate.
7. Finally, we call on the security agencies to be apolitical, while maintaining the highest level of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
