Dawari George becomes Governorship candidate

A former member of the House of Representatives, Dr Dawari George, has been elected the governorship candidate of Action Alliance (AA) for the 2023 elections in Rivers state.

George, who represented Akuku-toru and Asari-Toru Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, emerged at the substituted primary election conducted in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Wednesday morning.

He polled 93 votes in the consensus process monitored by representative of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Director of Security Services(DSS) and the Nigeria Police Force.

The Chairman substitution electoral panel of AA, Ata Joseph Esuikyo, declared him winner while the National Chairman of the Party Kenneth Udeze presented him to the State.

Recall that George was a member of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and a close confidant of the former Minister of Transportation Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. George and other bigwigs of the party had reportedly quit after an oil mogul, Tonye Cole was selected as the APC Governorship candidate.

The decision to pick Cole, was allegedly against the advise of other stakeholders. The fallout of that decision has left the party is the cold, as party sources told Africa Update that Cole is an unpopular Candidate, who lacks the capacity to wrestle power from the Peoples Democratic Party.
