▪Declares those threatening the truce deal as anti – Buhari elements The South South Zonal Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, David Okumgba, says the resolutions reached at the National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting on Thursday, June 25, ‘is a perfect sample of no victor no vanquished’. A statement released to the media reads: I have consciously considered the twist and turns of events that led to the convocation of yesterday’s (Thursday) meeting of the National Executive Committee, NEC of the All Progressive Congress, APC which I participated virtually. Having juxtaposed the underlying facts with the reflexes of some party faithful, obviously in reaction to the dissolution of the National Working Committee, NWC of our dear party, I make bold to say that the resolutions reached is a perfect sample of no victor no vanquished. There is no gainsaying the fact that before now, the APC at the national level was on tenterhooks and headed for Golgotha — the hill of execution but for the timely intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari. On the strength of the above, I specially applaud Mr President for showing exemplary leadership in nipping the gong show in the bud.
The equanimity, maturity and dexterity displayed by him throughout the lifespan of the impasse is praiseworthy. We will live to remain eternally grateful for his exhibition of candour and fatherly responsibilities to the APC and the nation.. Also worthy of commendation is the resilience and unfaltering allegiance of Chief (Hon) Victor Giadom, who assiduously pursued to a logical conclusion, the convocation of the revered NEC meeting — a singular action that heralded the restoration of tranquility to the murky waters of the party. Giadom will go the way of patriots in the annals of history for midwifing the birth of a bigger and better ruling party. It is noteworthy that the success of yesterday’s parley botched the expectations of our naysayers; mostly external forces across other political divides. These are gains we must all celebrate. Any glitches and setbacks, we recorded on our pathway to peace must be swept under the carpet. Remember, it’s the test of fire that makes fine steel It is for this reason that I enjoin all party faithfuls and our teeming supporters in the South-South geopolitical zone to embrace the new leadership party structure. Our people are encouraged to show support and rally round the H.E Mai Mala Buni led APC Caretaker Committee/Extraordinary National Convention Planning Committee. The servant-leader and affable disposition of the Yobe State Governor is a _sine qua non_ to our desired aim of lasting peace. Consequently, I will like to congratulate the entire members of the APC CTC, on behalf of the enthusiastic party supporters in the South-South zone, on their well deserved appointments. Interestingly, the CTC stars the duo of Sen. Akpan Udoedehe and Hon. David Lyon — two worthy sons of the South-South zone. Accordingly, as a regional political bloc we are confident in their individual capacities to deliver and therefore we throw our weights behind them on this critical party assignment. However, we cannot achieve our set goals in isolation or by complacency based on the euphoria of the NEC meeting. The practice of no pain, no gain is a necessity tool for application by all. Every hand must be on deck to ensure an expected outcome for the CTC. Perhaps, Brutus envisioned our present predicament when he declared vide, Shakespeare’s _Julius Caesar_ ” There is a time in the affairs of men Which taken at the flood, leads on to fortune”. It behooves on us to work harder if we cherish to walk the path of peace that we deserve because the party is a property to all members.
Sadly, the activities of a certain crestfallen minority masquerading as authentic and aggrieved NWC members, are allegedly opposed to Mr President’s recommendations nay the resolutions of the NEC — The second highest party organ after the National Convention. How sad! I hear they are threatening a legal action against the NEC. Does this show respect for Mr President and the provisions of our constitution on the decisions of the NEC, which is binding to all? This nauseating action is a total defiance to the president’s unequivocal warning on litigations. In the spirit of peace and genuine reconciliation, I will advise them to desist forthwith by borrowing a leaf from the team spirit displayed by HE John Oyegun in 2018 or end up drawing the ire of relevant party organs. We will no longer tolerate acts of dereliction and malfeasance by some leaders in the zone. Enough is enough! Conclusively, as a panacea for lasting peace I would like to appeal to aggrieved members who left the party in anger or angst, to return home. There are enormous promises from the Buni led leadership. Like I said earlier, the party is a property of every registered member and we all have equal stakes. Join hands and let’s build a prosperous APC together. The onus lies on us!
