Crack in Rivers State Assembly: lawmaker calls for Speaker’s resignation as Spirogyra takes over complex

Lawmaker who was elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Member representing Ahoada East Constituency 1, Martins Mannah,  has demanded for the immediate resignation of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani, over his inability to provide efficient leadership.

He also accused the Speaker of being influenced by the State Governor, Nyesom Wike, because according to him, ‘the Assembly only sits when the Governor permits’.

His words, “If the Speaker knows that he is incompetent, if he knows that he is not bold enough to pilot the affairs of the 8th Assembly to success. We are voted by our people. We are expected to bring result. We can not come here and begin to fail because of one man’s lackadaisical way of doing thing.

“So, if he knows that he doesn’t have what it takes to deliver dividends of democracy to the people and 8th Assembly, he should kindly and honorably resign.

“As new members, over 80% of us. How can we perform? Some members don’t know how to move motions. Some members don’t know how to contribute in the debate because they are not educated on legislative business and unfortunately, since I came on board, this is my third year and we have only travelled once for CPA meeting.

“And we have gone to only one seminar in Akwa Ibom. While other sister states that produce only onions and watermelons are able to sponsor their Assembly members abroad for all seminars, workshops and CPA meeting.

“What are we always talking about sef? We are here condemning the APC while we are yet to resolve our own problems.

“This 8th Assembly is the worst since the existence of Rivers state. This edifice we are in now was built by the former Governor of this State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi but we can’t even maintain it. See ‘spirogyra’ on the walls’, he stressed.
