The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission, RSIEC, has announced a date for the conduct of Local Government Council elections in the State.
Addressing stakeholders during a meeting the new RSIEC Chairman, Justice C. I Uriri, said the elections would hold on June 16, 2018.
This announcement generated resistance from the chairman of the All progressives congress, APC, Chief Ibiamu Ikanya, who stated his displeasure and disassociated his party from the planned election and subsequently walked out of the venue of the meeting.
The State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Bro Felix Obuah and other chairmen of some political parties were also in attendance.
