A female aspirant has emerged for the April 2021 elections in Rivers State. She is Ms. Gloria Harry, a journalist, banker and politician. Ms. Harry, who declared her interest last Tuesday will be pursuing this political objective through the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to which she changed camps from the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Ms Harry, who flaunts a star studded profile, has held several political offices across political parties in the state. For instance, she was a member of the security sub-committee of the Rivers state PDP campaign organisation in 2002 as well as the Deputy State Director Of Operations, Grand Alliance of Nigeria in 2003.
Ms harry was also a member of the Kalabari Elders Council in 2006 and in the same year, she was the Rivers State Coordinator of the Yar’adua /Goodluck support organisatiion, a position she combined with her membership of the entertainment sub-committee of the Rivers State PDP Campaign Organisation.
In 2010, she was appointed a member of the entertainment sub-committee of the Garden City Games. Earlier in 2008, she was the Rivers State Coordinator of the White Ribbon Alliance For Safe Motherhood (an international NGO). Her banking career which spanned 2003-2008 saw her at Manny Bank now Fidelity Bank between 2003 and 2004. She was at Fountain Trust Bank now Stanbic IBTC bank between 2004 and 2005. She was at Oceanic Bank now Ecobank from 2005 to 2008. She  is a recipient of United Nations Youth Ambassador For Peace, as well as author of The Invisible Remote Control (a novel sold on Amazon Kindle, Rakuten kobo and Okada books), and yet to be published novel- Love’s Jungle.
She was the president of the Rotary Club of Port Harcourt Garden City in 2016/2017 and life Patroness, Rivers State Secondary Schools Press Club.
Ms Gloria harry is also the Publisher/Editor In Chief of Africa Update Newspaper and Springpoint Magazine.
In 2017, she was elected chairman of rivers State Independent Publishers Association, RIVPA. Before her switch to the PDP, she was the immediate past administrative Secretary Of The South South Zone of the All Progressives Congress and a member of the Buhari/Osinbajo Campaign Organization. In business, she is the CEO of Delvs Services and Director Of Publicity, Project 4+4 Rivers State Chapter and in sports, she is the Assistant State Secretary of the Football Supporters Club. She is the Publicity Secretary of the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF, Rivers State as well as Marketing Support Executive for EVAPS (Electronic Visa Payment System) a service she rendered as the only marketing staff chosen by Fountain Trust Bank in Rivers State for the United States Embassy in Nigeria.
She has received the following awards: Best Rising Publisher in Rivers State 2007, Woman Of Merit Gold Award, Abuja 2008, and Business Champion in 2006 ( Manchester UK) etc.
She is an Associate chartered Economist. In a political environment where women are being deliberately encouraged to participate more actively in politics, Ms Gloria Harry, from Obuama in Degema LGA of Rivers State, may well have a chance if the men folks in the LGA are thinking along with the political leaders of the parties and the Nation at large, giving her spectacular credentials.
