Port Harcourt, Rivers State — In a major upset, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has claimed a sweeping victory in the Rivers State local government elections, securing chairmanship positions in 20 out of the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The results, as announced by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), signal a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which has long dominated Rivers State politics, secured victories in only three LGAs. The outcome represents a major triumph for the APC, which had previously vowed to challenge the PDP’s longstanding control.
RSIEC also declared the winners of the vice chairmanship elections, with the collation of councillorship results still ongoing at press time. This win solidifies the APC’s position and sets a new tone for political competition in the state ahead of future elections.
