Amanyanabo of Okrika commends Wike for ending chieftaincy dispute

The Amanyanabo of Okrika and Clan Hean of Okrika Clan, Hm. (Dr.) Alfred Semenitari Abam (Ado IX), has called on the people of Okrika, to work together for the peace and unity of the land, setting aside, misgivings that would have arisen as a result of past disputes or chieftaincy issues.

He also expressed gartitude to the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike for ending the Chieftaincy dispute without fear or favour, or political rascality.

The press release made available to Africa Update reads: “My dear people of Okrika, I greet you all.

First and foremost, let me thank God the Almighty, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things, both in heaven and here on earth. As the disposer of all the affairs, of the world, there is not one circumstance so great as not to be subject to His power, nor so small but- it comes within His care. Besides, He knows more than we know and sees more than we see. Therefore, I have always had complete confidence in His justice; and I have never had any doubts whatsoever in my mind as to the fairness of His judgments.

Quite often, some people are tempted to conclude that victory in litigation comes through the cold light of logic and facts of history; and that in our own case, the victory is a vindication of the customs and tradition of the Okrika people. Even so, “this is the Lord’s doing” to allow destiny to take its course, and “it is marvelous in our eyes”.

Secondly, I have to express my profound gratitude to all the churches and prayer Houses that engaged fervently and ceaselessly prayer that justice should prevail in the Amanyanabo litigation. The good Lord heard their prayers; and justice has prevailed. Let the people praise the Lord; let Him be adored by all that live.

I will also sincerely thank the Government of Rivers State for the firmness and sincerity of purpose with which the issue of recognition has been handled. It has vividly indicated that God-fearing individuals are at the helm of affairs. They tackle matters that crop up without fear or favour, and exhibit no political rascality.

Let me very heartily also thank the Okrika people who stood very solidly behind me during the hectic days of turbulence at home and the long period of litigation on the question of succession to the throne.

In giving me support, they not only kept-their nerve, but also persuaded others to remain calm and firm in upholding what they knew and believed to be true during the entire period of litigation-until, thanks to good Heavens, destiny finally took its course.

I therefore entreat all Okrika people to keep the past dispute or chieftaincy issues, which have loomed, large and nagging in .our midst for-sometime now, behind us. Let all exercise prudence and do nothing rash so that, in peace and unity, we can work together for the progress of our homeland and the welfare of all. Let all accept my plea with the same, affection with which it is herein cordially offered.

Finally, let me remind my people of the biblical injunction by St. Paul the Apostle, and most versatile missionary: “As much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men”.
