Strong indications have emerged suggesting that the major opposition party in Rivers State, the All Progressives Congress, APC, might suffer a major blow if nothing is done to calm aggrieved members, especially those loyal to Senator Magnus Abe.

Our correspondent, gathered from multiple sources that a peace move initiated by Chief Emeka Beke, the Chairman of the party, loyal to the Minister for Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, might further aggravate the crisis rocking the peace of the party.

A loyalist of Abe, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said it is unimaginable that Beke would constitute a peace and reconciliation committee to superintendent over a peace move despite being an interested party and pending court cases.

The source said, just like the Dame Aleruchi Cookey- Gam/ Ambassador Orji Ngofa led reconciliation committee set up by the Isaac Ogbuobula led caretaker committee of the Party failed to proffer solution to the crisis, the recently inaugurated peace committee will also hit the rocks, because its formation and motives are wrong.

The source warned that the failure of the leadership of the party at the center to dispassionately intervene in the crisis that has held the Rivers State Chapter in its comatose state, will lead to yet another defeat in the 2023 General Elections.

The source expressed worries that despite the party’s defeat in the 2015 and 2019 general elections, the State Chapter is still on the same pathetic route heading for another crash.

You will recall that the State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Emeka Beke had on Monday, promised that the party would provide a level playing field for all members interested in contesting in any elective position, noting that it would not accept the adoption of a sole candidate for the party.

Beke, who spoke in Port Harcourt, at the inauguration of the Reconciliation, Finance and Media Committees set up to reposition the party, regretted that many members of APC were aggrieved, adding that the reconciliatory move was apt.

The party chairman had stressed that his interest was to ensure peace in the APC, noting the need for all members to accept peace and work as a family to win elections in the state.
