The Executive Director of Finance and Administration at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Alabo Boma Iyaye, has issued a definitive rebuttal to reports circulating on social media regarding his purported entry into the Rivers State governorship race.
In a formal press statement released on Sunday, the NDDC chief clarified that the narratives suggesting he has declared an ambition for the state’s highest office and has subsequently received an endorsement from the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike are “inaccurate” and do not represent the facts.
Addressing the speculation, Mr Iyaye emphasised that his professional focus remains exclusively tethered to his statutory responsibilities at the Commission. He maintained that he is fully committed to working alongside the leadership and stakeholders of the NDDC to deliver upon the mandate of sustainable development for the Niger Delta region.
“For the avoidance of doubt, I have not made any formal declaration regarding a governorship ambition, nor have I received any endorsement from the Honourable Minister or any other individual as is being suggested,” the statement read.
Whilst distancing himself from the political rumours, the Executive Director took the opportunity to express his profound respect for Mr Nyesom Wike. He lauded the Minister for his leadership and significant contributions to public service across the Federation, though he maintained that their professional relationship should not be misconstrued as a partisan endorsement for a future electoral bid.
Mr Iyaye concluded by urging members of the public and media practitioners to exercise diligence and rely solely upon verified information. He cautioned against the propagation of unsubstantiated reports that serve only to mislead the citizenry.
The clarification arrives amidst a period of heightened political discourse in Rivers State, as various factions begin to calibrate their strategies ahead of the next electoral cycle. By issuing this disclaimer, the NDDC Director appears intent on insulating his current administrative duties from the distractions of political conjecture.
