As political gladiators warm up for the commencement of political activities ahead of the 2023 general elections, the pressure on who occupies the number one position in the country has gathered momentum.

While agitations are on, for the South East or South South to produce the next President, groups and individuals have also expressed their opinions on who they feel should be the next President, taking over from the incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Though considerations are made across party lines, in Rivers State and possibly the Niger Delta Region, the battle could be between the Minister of Transportation and former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi and his successor, Nyesom Wike. This revelation was made on December 24, by the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Samuel Nwanosike, during the verification exercise of members of the Grassroot Development Initiative, GDI.

He said, “When in 2013 we said that Chief (Barr.) Nyesom Ezenwo Wike will succeed Rotimi Amaechi as the governor of the state, no one believed it but now we have been vindicated and he is a man who has really proven his mettle. We are strongly ready to support and encourage him to continue with his winning streaks beyond the state and 2023.

“For this we are calling on the political iroko, the governor of Rivers, His Excellency, Chief (Barr.) Ezenwo Nyesom Wike to roll out his weight and contest in the 2023 Presidential election and I want to promise him that GDI is ready to marshal every resolve to the success of the project”. .

This declaration by Nwanosike, a stalwart of the Peoples Democratic Party. PDP, could be a major setback for Amaechi, who most analysts claim to be the most appropriate candidate for the APC, considering the overwhelming defeat of the APC in the South South under the watch of Wike.
