A middle aged woman was allegedly shot in the chest by a trigger happy soldier at 8:30am on Saturday at Jakpa Junction, Effurun, near Warri, Delta State.
According to details gathered from a close source to the family, the deceased was supposed to perform her crucial motherly role at the wedding ceremony which commenced very early in order to beat the sanitation exercise.
She had decided to take a commercial tricycle to a relation’s house near the venue of her daughter’s wedding in order to make it in time as the state-wide compulsory monthly environmental sanitation was in progress.
A soldier was said to have flagged down the tricyclist at Jakpa Junction, claiming it was not yet 10 a.m. the official time for citizens to move around. The driver of the commercial tricycle (aka keke nape) purportedly refused to stop which made another soldier shot at the tricycle resulting in the death of the woman.
Her corpse was reportedly taken to the Ekpan police state and later taken to the morgue by the police at about 10.10 a.m.
