Wike releases funds to rehabilitate Emohua-Kalabari Road

Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike has released funds for the immediate rehabilitation of failed portions of Emohua-Kalabari road.

The rehabilitation work will cover over two kilometres stretch of the road, Dornubari Kiinee, the Special Assistant (Media & Documentation) to Dr. Dakorinama Kelly George, the state Commissioner for Works said in a statement.

“The Governor has consequently released 100 percent of the funds needed for the project, and construction work will commence on Monday 31 October, 2022.

The press statement did not include details of the total amount approved and released for the job.

However, Ministry of Works explained that the reconstruction of the major road connecting the Kalabari Local Government Areas to the rest of the State, will consist of both concrete (rigid) and asphalt (flexible) pavements to prevent its dilapidation in the near future. The project is expected to be completed in six weeks.

The dilapidated state of the Emohua-Kalabari road had turned the very busy highway into a death trap, where kidnappers and robbers operated unabated instilling fear in the hearts of motorists.
