Wike, Fayose, Top Allies Expelled at National Convention

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executed a decisive and sweeping purge of its ranks on Saturday, expelling high-profile members, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose.

The move, carried out during the ongoing PDP National Convention in Ibadan, signals the party’s firm response to what it termed “anti-party activities” that have plagued the organization since the last general elections.

The motion for the expulsions was raised by one of the party’s founding fathers, Chief Bode George, and was unanimously supported by the delegates. The motion was subsequently seconded by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, cementing the party leadership’s resolve.

The expulsion of Nyesom Wike marks the most significant political fallout, considering his long-standing status as a major financial backer and influential figure within the party. Wike’s feud with the national leadership had been a source of internal chaos for over a year.

Also removed was the factional chairman of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, highlighting the PDP’s determination to end internal parallel structures.

The list of high-profile expulsions extends to several other key figures accused of disloyalty:

  • Adeyemi Ajibade (SAN): National Legal Adviser
  • Umar Bature
  • AbdulRahman Mohammed
  • Mao Chuambuwa
  • George Turner
  • Austin Nwachukwu
  • Abraham Ammah
  • Dan Orbih

The National Convention’s bold action is viewed by many as a necessary step for the PDP to reposition itself ahead of future electoral cycles. Party leaders suggested the decision aims to restore unity and discipline after months of internal discord.

“This decision, though painful in some respects, is vital for the health and future stability of our party,” a source within the National Working Committee stated. “The members have spoken clearly: indiscipline and anti-party activities will no longer be tolerated.”

The mass expulsion sends a strong message that the PDP is prioritizing internal cohesion and setting a zero-tolerance policy for political defiance among its top brass.
