Abuja, FCT – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has vehemently denied rumours of a medical collapse and subsequent overseas treatment, labeling the claims as baseless and politically motivated. Speaking during an inspection of ongoing FCT projects on Thursday, Wike asserted his continued active engagement in his duties.

“I don’t want to give credence to people who are only interested in spreading rumors,” Wike stated. “First of all, I am a human being, not a ghost. If someone collapses, it is a human being that collapses, not a ghost. Unfortunately, I did not collapse.”

Wike clarified that he has been consistently present at public engagements, including leading Abuja residents to the Presidential Villa and participating in the president’s Iftar event. “There was never a time I collapsed. There was never a time anybody took me anywhere for medical attention. People who spread such rumors should focus on reality,” he emphasised.

Accusing political detractors of fabricating the narrative to divert attention from pressing national issues, Wike humorously declared, “I will sign their condolences.”

Despite the controversy, Wike reaffirmed the steady progress of key infrastructure projects in the FCT, assuring that they are on schedule for inauguration during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second anniversary celebrations. He expressed satisfaction with the contractors’ work and adherence to deadlines, highlighting the government’s commitment to funding the projects.

“I am very, very impressed with what I have seen. The contractors have confidence in us, and we are not lagging behind in terms of funding,” he affirmed.

Wike also reiterated the importance of residents and businesses fulfilling their tax obligations, emphasising that the ongoing projects are a direct result of taxpayer contributions. “As you can see, we are putting taxpayer money to work. Those who are supposed to pay their taxes should do so,” he urged.

The minister reiterated his unwavering commitment to transforming the FCT through infrastructure development, pledging to remain focused on delivering tangible results rather than engaging in political distractions. “We will not be distracted. Our focus remains on delivering world-class projects that will benefit every resident of Abuja,” he stated.

With upcoming World Championships and other major international events, Wike assured that critical projects will be completed promptly, ensuring Abuja’s status as a model capital city in Africa.
