… “I believe the delivery on the SDGs is upholding human rights” ~Cole
Despite the campaigns kicking off, the Governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Tonye Cole had to attend the two day United Nations Sustainable development Goals in Johannesburg on December 1 and 2 2018, to secure the interests of Rivers people.
At the sideline of the high level event, he stated ‘As we come to the close of The UN Global initiative, it’s important to mention that the Sustainable Development Goals was at the Centre of this event. The world came together with one agenda and that’s the 17 Goals under the SDG’s that we must achieve by 2030. Talking about sovereignty in a Global world is impossible.
“Each country has challenges, some differ in their problems but they are all interconnected.
“Rivers State is no different but even more critical meeting any one of the SDGs in the state has a massive impact for the everyday people in Rivers. Climate change is running faster than we are, we have to match the pace and exceed its pace.
“We have to pay attention to the vast environmental damage of oil spills in the Niger Delta. Our State has a massive market for peace, we haven’t used it yet, there are so many people waiting to cultivate it; we need to awaken them.
“I believe the delivery on the SDGs is upholding human rights.
Peoples wellbeing adds to our balance sheet. My goal is to bring this to the door step of every Rivers indigene and ensure my people benefit from available development funds and impact, he said’’
Cole will spear head the planning of the next event in Nigeria together with the Global Citizen Initiative.
