Tradegy was averted on Saturday at Osogbo, Osun State, when the cargo section of a passenger train travelling from Lagos to Kano got detached from the main body and derailed due to Mechanical fault.
Africa Update gathered that the three wagons attached to the end of the passenger train got detached from the rest of the coaches at Ifon area of Osun at about 1:45am, with the train conductor, Mr Yakubu popularly called Baba Ibeji, in it. Eyewitness account stated that he came out unhurt but was taken to a nearby hospital for routine checkup.
Our source revealed that the pilotless wagons lumbered to the interchange at the terminus around Old Garage area in Osogbo where the wheels got off the track and the wagons tumbled and crashed into a nearby building, while the train driver was later stopped at Offa in Kwara State.
Our correspondent further gathered that a man had arrived the scene of the accident with a vehicle inorder to steal the cargo from the stranded wagon but he was apprehended and detained by security operatives attached to the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
