Tragedy Strikes Mosque: Man Collapses, Dies During Early Morning Prayers

A somber scene unfolded at a Gudaba village mosque in Abuja as 52-year-old Salihu Byezhe tragically collapsed and died during Subhi (early morning) prayers.

The incident, which occurred just after the pre-dawn meal (Sahur), shocked worshippers who witnessed Byezhe suddenly slump mid-prayer. According to eyewitness Musa Dantani, who was present, “Prayers were ongoing when he suddenly slumped, and some Muslims inside the mosque quickly held him and conveyed him to the hospital.” Despite their swift action, Byezhe, who was still breathing en route, was pronounced dead upon arrival.

It has been revealed that Byezhe had been managing high blood pressure, a condition that may have been exacerbated during the early morning prayers. One of his sons, who was also present at the mosque, accompanied the Good Samaritans to the hospital and witnessed his father’s passing.

Following Islamic rites, Byezhe’s remains were laid to rest at approximately 10:12 am on Thursday, leaving the Gudaba community in mourning.
