Reports have emerged about the beheading of a notorious bandit leader known as Sola. Africa Update gathered from multiple sources that vigilante members in Batsari town in Katsina State reportedly cut off Sola’s head after killing him.
They were said to have moved around the town displaying his severed head. A Source revealed that the slain bandit leader was nicknamed “sola” (solar) because he operates in broad daylight.
Nigerian police did not respond to requests for comment. The so-called bandits terrorising northern Nigeria maintain camps in a vast forest, straddling Zamfara, Katsina, Kaduna and Niger states.
Data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project shows that bandits were responsible for more than 2,600 civilian deaths in 2021.
