A middle aged man climbed a pole along Tombia street, in GRA axis of Rivers State, in order to commit suicide in the full glare of the public on May 27.
Onlookers and sympathisers pleading with him to come down from the pole, offered to give him one million naira if he comes down but the adamant man refused the money and rather chose to die.
While he was still up on the pole, PHED brought light which electrocuted him and threw him down unconscious. When he regained consciousness, a police van took him away.
Eye witnesses say he seemed unwell and mentally unstable.
