Strange foamy gunk filled the streets of a Japanese city after a 7.3 magnitude earthquake struck the country, residents in Fukuoka, which is a couple of hours’ drive from the earthquake’s epicentre on Japan’s Kyushu island, kicked their way through the streets after a blanket of the foam several inches deep appeared following the tremors.
A spokesperson from Fukuoka town hall was at a loss to explain the foam, it was reported. Residents speculated an underground pipe may have been ruptured by the earthquake.
More than two dozen people were killed by the earthquake on Saturday morning and about 1,500 were injured.
