Worried by the recent appearance of soot in Rivers State, which has led to respiratory infection in citizens, the Rivers Civil Society Organisations, RIVCSO, led by Eugene Abels, took to the streets to demand for an immediate end to the emission of soot in Port Harcourt and neighboring communities.
In a peaceful protest today, April 19, 2018, the group marched to offices of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, the Rivers State House of Assembly and The Government House, expressing their grievances.
Most residents who cheered in solidarity are hopeful that the stop the soot campaign would yield the desired outcome.
