SSG Anabraba commends NCWS Rivers State Branch, assures of Govt support

The Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG), Hon. Dr. Benibo Fredrick Anabraba, has pledged the support of the state administration for the National Council for Women Societies (NCWS), Rivers State Branch, during a crucial courtesy visit by the Council’s Executive Committee at his office in Port Harcourt, the State capital.

The visit, led by the NCWS State President, Princess (Mrs.) Jetiba Soberekon, JP, served to formalize the Council’s relationship with the new SSG and seek government backing for their forthcoming State Convention.

In his response, Dr. Anabraba warmly commended the NCWS for their persistent and laudable initiatives, which include medical outreaches and support for the elderly and orphans. He urged the women’s group to intensify their efforts toward a critical area of need: ensuring that children on the streets are empowered and encouraged to return to school.

The SSG stressed that the administration of His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, is deeply passionate about the welfare of women, children, and all vulnerable groups in the state. He assured the delegation of the Governor’s support towards their convention, which the NCWS leadership described as crucial for their activities.

Earlier, the NCWS President, Princess Jetiba Soberekon, had commended the SSG for his dedication and dexterity in office. The President’s address, read by the NCWS, 2nd Vice President, Gloria Boma Harry, detailed the Council’s impressive list of independent achievements, including sensitization on health and civic duties, and reiterated the need for government collaboration.

Crucially, the NCWS delegation used the occasion to formally notify the SSG that Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Hon. Dr. Benibo Fredrick Anabraba himself would both be receiving awards in recognition of their support for women and children during the upcoming State Convention.

The NCWS announced that the revised dates for their State Convention are now scheduled for December 19 and 20, 2025.

The visit concluded with the NCWS reaffirming its readiness to collaborate on any task assigned by the State Government to foster development, particularly concerning women, the girl-child, and the physically challenged.
