Former Rivers State Governor and current Minister for Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, has requested for the immediate arrest of the Commissioner for Sports, Boma Iyaye, following startling revelations about financial misappropriation of over N2 billion earmarked for the construction of a Sports Academy.
Speaking exclusively to Africa Update on recent allegations made by his successor, Governor Nyesom Wike, about gross embezzlement and abandonment of projects including the sports academy, Amaechi said,” Sports Academy was awarded through his commissioner for sports. If the contractor did not go to site, he should arrest his commissioner”.
On the porpurted payment of N47 billion for the construction of Trans Amadi Road, Amaechi stated, ” How you would know that he is lying is that the contract for Trans Amadi was reduced by my government to 39 billion naira. So how could you pay 47 for a 39 billion naira contract?”.
The Minister reiterated that Wike lied about the abandonment of the new Rivers State University, because according to him, ” He collected the money for the University back from the contractor. The contractor mobilized late because he said the money was too small”.
He advised Wike to stop the smear game because ” lying wont save him from the poll”.
