Soldiers arrest DPO, policemen over murder of their colleague in Rivers State

Residents at Wimpy axis along Ada George Road in Rivers State fled for their lives on Thursday morning as soldiers stormed  the Rumukpakani Police Station, over the killing of their colleague by a police man attached to that station.
According to eyewitness account, the deceased and his colleague, both dressed in civilian clothes  had alighted from a convoy and  seen controlling traffic to make way for their superior who was reportedly trapped in traffic.
A policeman had shot him when he saw a pistol with the slain officer and was about shooting the other soldier, who quickly identified himself.
Our source said the police had carried the deceased soldier into their van and driven to their station.
Angry soldiers, led by a senior officer had invaded the police station in search of the policeman who killed their colleague.
They were said to have broken into the cell still in search of the police man which caused those in detention to escape.
The  Divisional Police Officer and policemen were taken away by the angry soldiers.
Rivers Police Commissioner, Zaki Ahmed confirmed the incident and said the incident happened at dawn today, “It is very unfortunate, but it is not true that soldiers are chasing police” Ahmed stated.
People have been urged to avoid the area.
