Scores of military officers, including senior officers, have been arrested over an alleged plot to overthrow the president of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.
According to information made available on Sunday by the army spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Paddy Ankunda purported that the officers arrested, have suspected links to an opposition politician, Michael Kabaziguruka, who is being questioned by the police over similar allegations. He said more officers , including a colonel with Uganda’s air forces are being held over alleged acts of subversion.
Ankunda further revealed that Mr Kabaziguruka is a close ally of opposition leader Kizza Besigye, who was charged with treason following a disputed presidential election in February.
He (Mr Besigye ) had refused to accept the official results and had claimed victory over Mr Museveni, who has been in power since 1986.
